Ram spikers split in play last week

The Greene County volleyball team hosted a triangular with a pair of non-conference teams last Tuesday, Sept. 21. It was their only action last week. The Rams lost to South Central Calhoun but defeated Panorama. The Rams are 9-5 on the season after losing 21-25, 18-25 to the Titans, and beating the Panthers 25-10, 30-28. SCC won 25-11, 25-15 over Panorama.

Natalie Heupel set 14 assists in the win over Panorama. Emma Shipley, Kaylee Stalder and Brianna Habben each put down five kills; Isabella Schroeder, four and three by Natalie Heupel and Emma Ewalt. 

The Heupels anchored the defense with nine digs by Katrina and seven by Natalie. Alexa Peters had three digs with two by Graci Cooklin and Ewalt. Schroeder had three block assists with two by Ewalt.

The team served 92.7 percent, missing just four serves in the match. Cooklin went 7/7 with one ace; Peters 4/4; N Heupel, 17/17, three aces; Ewalt, 6/8, one ace; Schroeder 3/4 and K Heupel 14/15, five aces.   

Against SCC, N Heupel set 12 assists. Stalder put down four kills; three by Shipley, N Heupel and Schroeder; two by Ewalt. Shipley and Habben managed just two block assists. Numerous players had four digs: Cooklin, Peters, Heupel, Ewalt and K Heupel.

The serving dropped to 82.9 percent. Cooklin went 7/9; Peters 4/5; N Heupel 3/5, one ace; Ewalt 10/10, three aces; Schroeder 5/5 and K Heupel 5/5. 

Greene County was scheduled in the Roland-Story tournament on Sept. 27. West Marshall came to the Ram hardwood on Tuesday. Saturday, Oct. 2, Greene County is hosting a tournament, beginning at 9 am. The JV team will compete in a tournament at Southeast Valley in Gowrie that day.
